Student support initiatives by CRHNet

CRHNet welcomes students and upcoming professionals in the field of risk, hazard and emergency management as the future of this increasingly important field of work.

To this end, the Young Professional branch of CRHNet aims to connect young academics and professionals from all over Canada whose research work is related to risks, hazards and resilience.

The Young Professionals Committee was created to represent and give voice to the needs of Canadian students in related fields (professional development, mentorship opportunities, jobs, publishing and internship opportunities).

As part of the establishment and management of the Canadian Risks and Hazards Network, a Bursary was created to provide students the opportunity to attend the annual symposium, which fosters partnership building on a national and regional basis. This year, the symposium will be held in Montreal QC, from November 23 – 25 ( )

Every year, the Young Professionals organize student related events at the Symposium. Some examples include mentoring sessions, publication and research workshops with senior academics from Canada and abroad and job market search sessions. During the 2014 CRHNet Symposium, the Committee hosted a successful Round Table session which provided a structured but informal opportunity for students and young professionals to network with more experienced practitioners and academics. This year, the Committee is excited to work with the CHRNet Communications Committee to initiate opportunities for outreach and discussion in providing emerging professionals with other sources for engagement. They will also be focusing on ideas for the 2016 Symposium to create a dynamic interactive session. CRHNet membership offers discounts for students attending the annual symposium as well.

In addition, Young Professionals strives to organize seminars featuring international experts with partner universities.

We encourage students and young professionals to join CRHNet’s Young Professionals Facebook page (300 members) for connecting with the nation-wide communities in the fields of emergency management, disaster resilience and climate change adaptation. The forum provides information about jobs opportunities, internships, scholarships (and other educational opportunities), publishing as well as recent research. It also serves as a general platform for discussing topical issues in the field of disaster risk reduction: .

CRHNet thanks you for your ongoing support for and participation in the Network.
